Ben Savage of “Boy Meets World” fame has announced a bid for U.S. Congress.

Savage will run in California’s 30th Congressional District. Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who currently occupies that seat, announced a U.S. Senate bid earlier this year.

“I am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community,” Savage wrote in an Instagram post.

“I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues,” he wrote. “And it’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

Savage expresses various left-wing views on his campaign website.

He advocates for the codification of Roe v. Wade, describes himself as “an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community,” and calls for banning “assault weapons and weapons of war.” He also calls for universal health care and universal pre-K and says that he opposes offshore drilling.

Savage declares that the universal health care “system should include dental, hearing, vision, both long-term and short-term care, both in-patient and out-patient care, mental health services, reproductive and maternity care, and the cost of prescription drugs.”

The candidate also expressed his support for teachers’ unions, noting that he will “stand with teachers and teachers unions as they fight for better resources and higher pay.”

Savage ran for West Hollywood City Council last year but came in seventh place.

He is known for playing the character of Cory Matthews on the TV series “Boy Meets World.” More than a decade later, Savage reprised the role, playing Cory Matthews on the series “Girl Meets World.”
