Ex-social worker, already accused of sexually abusing 13-year-old, now faces intimidation charges after showing up at boy’s home with gun

The 24-year-old former social worker from Ohio is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a teenager is now accused of showing up at the boy’s home with a gun.

As Blaze News previously reported, Payton Shires was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old boy after the victim’s mother suggested “something inappropriate was happening between her son and Ms. Shires after seeing messages asking if he had deleted the videos and asking if his mom had seen the videos or messages.”

She informed police of the suspicions on Sept. 27.

Police conducted a forensic evaluation of the minor’s cell phone, and allegedly found a video of the boy and Shires engaging in sexual conduct. The 13-year-old allegedly told police that he had sex with his counselor in various places in Columbus on numerous occasions in September.

Shires purportedly admitted on a three-way phone call later on with the boy’s mother and detectives to engaging in sexual activity with the minor.

WSYX reported, “A 24-year-old social worker charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a 13-year-old boy she was counseling is now accused of showing up to the victim’s home with a gun.”

Charging documents said that the mother of the 13-year-old boy – who was not home at the time – saw Shires on surveillance video inside her home. The mother reportedly contacted the police.

In the police report, a detective said officers arrived at the alleged victim’s home shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Officers allegedly saw Shires on the front porch of the home. Police said Shires threatened self-harm with a gun.

SWAT team members and the Columbus Division of Police took Shires into custody on Friday without incident.

The mother later allegedly informed police that she had received a phone call from Shires, who purportedly said she wanted to die by suicide and kill the mother.

A detective wrote that Shires believed they “ruined her life and took everything from her.”

Shires, of Mount Sterling in Madison County, now faces two charges of felony third-degree victim intimidation.
