NYC Department of Education gives schools long list of websites to address Mideast war. Many of them hold a strong, anti-Israel bias.

Breaking News

New York City’s Department of Education has reportedly sent teachers a robust list of websites that are apparently supposed to be used to educate students about the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Some of the websites listed hold a strong bias against the Jewish state.

The New York Post reported that 35 links were provided, many of which involve news, education, and other organizations. All of them are listed in alphabetical order, with the second on the list being Al Jazeera, an Arab-run news outlet that holds strong positions against Israel.

Al Jazeera has apparently referred to the surprise attacks by Hamas that took place last weekend to be an “operation” or “offensive” by fighters in Palestine. And then the third link featured on the list was Amnesty International, a non-profit organization that claimed “Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians: Decades of Oppression and Domination.”

In a 2022 report, Amnesty International claimed a “new investigation shows that Israel imposes a system of oppression and domination against Palestinians across all areas under its control: in Israel and the OPT, and against Palestinian refugees, in order to benefit Jewish Israelis. This amounts to apartheid as prohibited in international law.”

“Laws, policies and practices which are intended to maintain a cruel system of control over Palestinians, have left them fragmented geographically and politically, frequently impoverished, and in a constant state of fear and insecurity.”

However, it did not appear to address the atrocities carried out by Hamas or other Palestinian groups.

While there are some websites that seem to be balanced on the list, such as “Facing History and Ourselves” and “Learning for Justice,” the New York Post noted that there may be some who fear that the slanted websites might try to justify the horrific attacks that took place on October 7 by Hamas, which was the reason why Israel retaliated in the way they did.

Even after the attacks against Israel were carried out, the report noted that the Department of Education’s response was not one that condemned the violence enacted by Hamas, but rather one that apparently offered students counseling if they needed it.

A SoHo mother, Maud Maron, shared with the New York Post that “I’m infuriated by the light, non-response,” adding “[a]fter1,000 Jews are massacred and babies and toddlers taken hostage, we get a tepid, both-sides, nuanced, ‘it’s complicated’ message about militants, not terrorists,” she added. “The discrepancy is so obvious.”

At the time of this report, over 3,000 people have been killed in the dispute between Israel and Hamas.
