MSNBC’s Hayes: Conservative Censorship Claims ‘Never Made Much Sense’

Breaking News

Big Tech censorship of conservative voices has been an issue for years and only seems to be getting worse by the day. This simple, sad fact of life has been blatantly apparent. This obviously doesn’t include MSNBC’s Chris Hayes who took to the airwaves on his show All In on Wednesday to deny it’s something that’s been happening.

The proof Hayes offered was that former President Donald Trump wasn’t banned on social media during his presidency despite what Hayes claims were multiple violations, and he was recently reinstated on Twitter and will soon be officially allowed back on Facebook.

“For years, conservatives have been whining and whining, and whining, that social media is somehow biased against them,” Hayes said with a straight face.

“Never made that much sense. Of course, you don’t have to look further than what Donald Trump got away with. Routinely violating the terms of service on both Facebook and Twitter during his time on the platform with lies and personal attacks and misinformation,” Hayes added.

Hayes then whined that Trump’s “accounts were only cut off after he used the platforms to help to incite the deadly insurrection on January 6, 2021. Now, Facebook says it is ending Trump’s two-year suspension.”

Of course, Hayes’ reasoning and conclusions were dead wrong. While many conservatives have experienced social media censorship at some point, (even some of us at MRC have been victims), MRC’s CensorTrack database has documented nearly five thousand proven cases of Big Tech censorship.

Hayes can play dumb all he wants, but anyone who spends any amount of time online knows it’s true.

Before going to a commercial break, Hayes accused conservatives of not really caring about free speech, but instead wanting to silence their opposition: “The clear through line here is that for all the protestations about social media on the right, this is not about free speech, abstract marketplace of ideas. They want to promote their ideas no matter the consequences and have the ideas of others simply snuffed out.”

The late, great radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh once said that the left always accuses you of the very thing they’re guilty of. Hayes’ accusations prove El Rushbo right once again.

Rush’s record of being right 99.8% of the time remains intact.

CHRIS HAYES: For years, conservatives have been whining and whining, and whining, that social media is somehow biased against them. Never made that much sense. Of course, you don’t have to look further than what Donald Trump got away with. Routinely violating the terms of service on both Facebook and Twitter during his time on the platform with lies and personal attacks and misinformation. In fact, his accounts were only cut off after he used the platforms to help to incite the deadly insurrection on January 6, 2021. Now, Facebook says it is ending Trump’s two-year suspension. Though it is imposing what it calls guardrails.

HAYES: Meanwhile, on Twitter, where Trump was reinstated months ago, Elon Musk decided to reactivate the account of white nationalist Nazis sympathizer Nick Fuentes yesterday. You’ll remember Fuentes invited Marjorie Taylor Greene to appear at a white nationalist rally where he cheered on Putin, and dine with Trump at Mar-a-Lago just before Thanksgiving as a plus one to Kanye West who then tweeted out a swastika a few days later.

Well, you’ll be shocked, I’m sure, to hear that Fuentes is once again suspended from the platform. Took less than 24 hours for Fuentes to host a Twitter space where he went, quite predictably, on an antisemitic rant, earning that new suspension. Though he’s on other platforms asking his followers to pressure Twitter to reinstate him again. So who knows how long this will last?

HAYES: The clear through line here is that for all the protestations about social media on the right, this is not about free speech, abstract marketplace of ideas. They want to promote their ideas no matter the consequences and have the ideas of others simply snuffed out.
