MSNBC’s Sanders Asks Jan 6 Committee to Expel GOP Senators Like Confederates

Breaking News

During her interview with the chair of the rabidly partisan January 6 Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), MSNBC host Symone Sanders displayed once again how foolish she is. On MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight, Sanders was given airtime for her interview where she seemed to lobby Thompson to get Republican Senators expelled like Confederate Democrat senators were after the Civil War.

The big difference is that senators like Josh Hawley (R-MO) or Mike Lee (R-UT) didn’t commit treason by challenging electoral votes on January 6. What makes Sanders seem even more oblivious is the fact that Thompson was one of the Democrat members of Congress to challenge the reelection of then-President George W. Bush on January 6, 2005.

Sanders asked Thompson about the “members of Congress that we know aided and embedded in some way shape or form the insurrection or the plot to disrupt the peaceful transition of power.”

She wanted to know if Thompson “reached out to the ethics committee about what their processes is going to be, what happens.”

After rambling on for a bit, Sanders asks: “For these other members of Congress should they too not be held accountable?”

Sanders’s argument was that “after the Civil War, members of the United States Senate who sided with the confederacy – they were expelled by their colleagues.”

So, by Sanders’ logic, Thompson should be thrown out of office as well since – as discussed earlier – Thompson challenged the peaceful transfer of power after the free and fair election of George W. Bush.

SYMONE SANDERS: On the referrals not related to the Justice Department but you made referrals of four members of Congress, the committee did to the ethics committee, separately though I did not, I have not seen and maybe you can illuminate some of this for us recommendations about the members of Congress that we know aided and embedded in some way shape or form the insurrection or the plot to disrupt the peaceful transition of power.

On the ethics committee referrals, have you reached out to the ethics committee about what their processes is going to be, what happens come January, Republicans are in charge and then for these other members of Congress should they too not be held accountable? After the Civil War, members of the United States Senate who sided with the confederacy they were expelled by their colleagues.
