Javon Carter — the 29-year-old suspect at the center of a
murder-for-hire plot — is accused of murdering U.S. Transportation Security Administration Officer Le’Shonte Jones in 2021 on the orders of hairdresser Jasmin Martinez.

Martinez is said to have used money from a PPP loan in order to pay Carter at least $10,000 for the deed. According to reports, Martinez gave Carter the money to kill Jones — a rival who dated her ex-boyfriend. The Miami Herald reported that Jones had “been a victim and witness in the robbery case against one of Martinez’s boyfriends.”

According to a previous report from the

Carter was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder of Jones’ daughter in addition to other related charges. Carter has denied any involvement in the attack.

Martinez also faces murder charges in connection with the incident as well as interception of communication, two counts of tampering with a witness, conspiring to commit first-degree murder, and first-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
