OAN Files Lawsuit Against DirecTV and AT&T

Breaking News

One America News Network filed a lawsuit against DirecTV and AT&T.

The complaint contained multiple counts, most of which focused on allegations that DirecTV and AT&T breached their contracts.

OAN said that the service providers caved to “political pressure and have put their unlawful interests and the unlawful personal, political, and financial interests of their management ahead of contractual and legal obligations.”

AT&T Executive Board Chairman William Kennard is also a named defendant in the suit.

OAN said the partnership was successful until “the FCC approved AT&T’s acquisition of DIRECTV and the acquisition completed in July of 2015, AT&T and DIRECTV did not hold up their end of the bargain.”

OAN argued that AT&T assigned its contractual rights to DirecTV and that is why the company declined to renew OAN’s contract.

Interestingly, DirecTV also canceled Russia’s RT News just months after it announced that it had dropped OAN.

Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton and several other attorney generals penned a letter that slammed DirecTV for dropping OAN.

They said the company initially favored “viewpoint diversity” but that all changed when Joe Biden was elected.

“Those values appear to have changed drastically in late 2020 when the legacy media decided Joe Biden was the next president.”

They further warned that failure to renew the contract in April would cause the company to “lose millions of dollars in business.”

According to Mediate, DirecTV doubled down on its decision.

“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the company said.
