Out of the running? Biden admin interested in recruiting failed Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe

Breaking News

Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe lost to Republican Glenn Youngkin during Virginia’s gubernatorial election contest last week, but according to Punchbowl News, the Biden administration has interest in finding a role for the failed Democratic candidate.

“The Biden administration is interested in finding a spot somewhere for Terry McAuliffe according to multiple high-level sources familiar with the White House’s thinking,” Punchbowl News reported. “All Cabinet spots are full, for now. And McAuliffe isn’t asking for a job; this seems to be the administration trying to find a place where McAuliffe can serve.”

Commenting on the Punchbowl News report, FNC Contributor Joe Concha tweeted, “Given how utterly tone-deaf this administration is, this is par for the course.”

McAuliffe, who previously served as governor from early 2014 until early 2018, fell short in his bid to return to the Virginia governor’s mansion.

“Congratulations to Governor-Elect Glenn Youngkin on his victory. I hope Virginians will join me in wishing the best to him and his family,” McAuliffe said in a statement last week.

The former governor’s defeat occurred after Joe Biden won Virginia by about 10 points during the 2020 presidential contest.

Biden, who has been facing low approval ratings, backed McAuliffe during the Virginia gubernatorial election.

Former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat from Hawaii, hailed McAuliffe’s defeat as a win for all Americans.

“McAuliffe’s loss is a victory for all Americans. Why? Because it was a resounding rejection of efforts to divide us by race, the stripping of parental rights, and arrogant, deaf leaders. This benefits us all,” she tweeted.
