Attorney General Merrick Garland asked Congress for additional funding, which would be used to combat domestic terrorism, gender violence and systemic racism.
The Department of Justice’s more than $35 billion budget request for 2022 reflects the agency’s mission, Attorney General Merrick Garland said during his opening remarks before a House Appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday.
Under the proposed budget, the DOJ would prioritize domestic terrorism cases, civil rights investigations, preventing violence against women, programs that promote community-oriented policing, improved resources to prevent gun violence, climate change initiatives, antitrust enforcement and bolstering immigration court capabilities, Garland said.
“I ask for your support for our budget as the entire Department works to ensure adherence to the rule of law, protection of public safety, and equal justice for all Americans,” Garland said during the hearing.
The proposal includes $45 million for FBI investigations into domestic terrorism and $40 million to assist U.S. attorneys in handling increased caseload related to those investigations. It also requests an additional $33 million to address discrimination and $304 million more for programs that address “systemic inequities” in policing.
The DOJ has charged more than 400 individuals in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, CNN reported. Domestic terrorism cases have increased overall in recent years, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The department recently announced civil rights investigations into the Minneapolis, Minnesota and Louisville, Kentucky police departments.
Garland asked for a whopping $1 billion for the DOJ’s Office of Violence Against Women. Part of those funds would go towards replenishing the national rape kit backlog.
With 1.3 million pending immigration cases, Garland also asked for funds to support 100 new immigration judges.

The DOJ is part of the system. Giving them money to fight systemic racism seems a bit contradictory.
Will: Completely agree. This administration is causing all the problems, then they want money to deal with them? I think not!
The only racially action I see is against white people. If you can’t see that then you are blind or a democrap. They have not had a voice for a long time. The government has given black people every thing, and they snort or piss it off, Enough is enough.
They will never investigate the real domestic terrorists because they are all demonrat backed, i.e. antifa, blm, kkk, etc. So, don’t waste any more money on something that will be used to try to take more of our rights away

I am very curious on what authority or activity the DOJ has anything to do with climate change initiatives?
This could be scary if you think of what they could be policing for. Maybe haul you in for your gas guzzler or not converting your dwelling to proper levels of energy efficient model in time?
Unless they are using that to revamp their fleet to EV Prius’ or maybe change out all their ammo for copper only or syntech bullets for environmentally safer shooting at suspects or remodel every office to be more energy efficient.
This is just another word for gestapo action or better known as the KGB or Hitlers SS, they will use this as broad range of what they alone will determine to be “Domestic Terrorism” and it will hit directly and will be designed to rupture Our First Amendment rights they start setting curfews so they will not be noticed raiding peoples homes, this is injustice beyond reasonable just as their stolen election was and is. ……….Not one Republican fighting for justice against are rights for fair and free elections, the RINO’s are as much to blame as the Communist Democrats both Communists and Communists sympathizers or Leftest Socialists. and only we can stand at the white-house and congress and demand our rights as Americans, because they are not Americans.
