The U.S. Postal Service is investigating the discovery of several trays of mail found in a Greenville, Wisconsin drainage ditch Tuesday.

The mail trays contained mail that had been collected from customers and should have been delivered to a post office. The discarded mail was found near the intersection of highway 96 (W. Wisconsin Ave) and Highway CB.

The three trays of mail were discovered by deputies in the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department.

A USPS spokesperson confirmed in a statement that the found mail did include absentee ballots, but offered few other details.

“The United States Postal Inspection Service immediately began investigating and we reserve further comment on this matter until that is complete,” spokesman Bob Sheehan wrote.

As the mail was headed to the post office, those ballots are likely filled out and ready to be counted.

This incident highlights concerns President Trump has expressed over mail-in voting and the potential for fraud.
