RFK Jr. takes notice as panel reportedly recommends Secret Service protection for Nikki Haley

Breaking News

A panel has reccommended that GOP presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley get Secret Service protection, according to reports that indicate that Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas gets to determine whether to greenlight the protection.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been trying unsuccessfully to get Secret Service protection for some time, took notice of the development.

“A congressional advisory committee just voted in favor of granting Nikki Haley Secret Service protection. While I’m happy she’ll be protected and publicly supported her request, double standards abound,” he declared in a post on X.

“Refusing me Secret Service protection is a way to drain my campaign funds and stop the movement we’re building together. They want us out of the race by any means necessary. This is blatant election interference,” he said in the post. “Let me be clear: I have immense respect for the Secret Service. This corruption is coming from much higher up.”

“Unfortunately for the establishment and those who skulk around in back rooms, I’m not going anywhere. Our movement is growing stronger and our coalition is building. I am more steadfast than ever about winning in November. If you give me a sword and some ground to stand on, I will give you your country back,” he declared.

In response to Kennedy’s post, GOP Rep. Chip Roy of Texas tweeted, “Mr. Kennedy should be afforded protection.”

Kennedy, who launched a Democratic presidential primary bid last year, later switched to run as an independent candidate.

Trump has nearly cleared the field of Republican presidential primary rivals and will likely be able to easily defeat Haley and win the GOP’s 2024 presidential nod.

U.S. law states that at that under the DHS secretary’s direction, Secret Service may protect “Major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and, within 120 days of the general Presidential election, the spouses of such candidates. As used in this paragraph, the term ‘major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates’ means those individuals identified as such by the Secretary of Homeland Security after consultation with an advisory committee consisting of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, the majority and minority leaders of the Senate, and one additional member selected by the other members of the committee.”
