Woman finds home demolished after returning home from vacation

Breaking News

A woman is deciding how to proceed after she returned home to find that a house she owned in southwest Atlanta had been mistakenly dashed to rubble.

Susan Hodgson shared with the Associated Press that she returned home from vacation to find nothing more than a pile of rubble in place of what was previously a home that had been in the family for a long time.

She said she was furious after learning about the situation, saying, “I keep waking up thinking, ‘Is this all a joke or something?’ I’m just in shock.”

Hodgson was reportedly informed of the situation from a neighbor while she was on vacation, who called her to ask if she had planned for a company to come and tear down the house. When Hodgson said that she did not schedule a demolition, the neighbor said, “Well, there’s someone over here who just demolished the whole house and tore it all down,” according to WAGA-TV.

The neighbor was told to “shut up and mind her own business” by someone tearing down the house when she attempted to intervene in the situation.

Hodgson eventually sent a family member over to the property, asking the team for a permit. The individual in charge of the demolition admitted that they were at the wrong address.

Even though the company You Call It We Haul It admitted that they were at the wrong address, they have not yet contacted Hodgson about how to proceed. Hodgson has reportedly gone to the police and talked to lawyers, but the case still remains in limbo, per the report.

“How do people just go up and tear somebody’s property down and then just drive off?” Hodgson said. “How can they think that’s OK? I just wish he would come fix the problem that he caused.”

“It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say ‘I’m sorry. What do I need to do to fix this? It was an accident.’ They didn’t give me nothing.”

“I think he owes us an apology, and he needs to fix the problem. He needs to fix the problem,” Hodgson said.

WAGA-TV apparently reached out to the company about the situation, and they said that they are currently working on a solution to the issue.
