Alabama governor signs bill blocking men from playing on women’s college sports teams and vice versa

Breaking News

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, a Republican, has signed legislation to ban public colleges from permitting biological males to participate in sports designated for females and vice versa.

“Look, if you are a biological male, you are not going to be competing in women’s and girls’ sports in Alabama. It’s about fairness, plain and simple,” Ivey said in a statement.

The commonsense measure comes as debate continues to rage around the nation and the globe regarding whether males who identify as women should be permitted to participate in women’s sports. Many Americans are tired of the absurdities being peddled by radical leftist gender ideology proponents, and some states have been pushing back with legislation.

Alabama had already banned K-12 public schools from allowing boys to play on a girls’ teams — the state also already prohibited girls from playing on boys’ K-12 school sports teams if there is a female team for a sport.

“By signing HB 261 into law, Governor Ivey is actively taking part in the systematic attack against LGBTQ+ people,” Human Rights Campaign Alabama state director Carmarion D. Anderson-Harvey claimed in a statement. The Human Rights Campaign is a pro-LGBT advocacy group.

“In just two years, she and extremist lawmakers in Alabama have passed four anti-LGBTQ+ bills. From dictating what bathrooms we can use to blatantly ignoring the actual problems in women’s sports, these politicians are making Alabama an increasingly hostile place for transgender people and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. HRC will continue to fight state legislatures across the country that apparently think our rights are optional,” Anderson-Harvey declared.
