In a display of their dedication to the LGBT movement, leftists marked “International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia” on Wednesday. President Joe Biden and various other Democratic figures issued statements expressing their support for those who identify as LGBT.
“On the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, we reaffirm our commitment to this ongoing work and stand with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI+) people around the world,” Biden declared in his statement.
Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania shared a photo of himself sporting multiple brightly-colored necklaces and a shirt with a rainbow pride flag sticking out of the pocket — a button on the shirt reads, “PHILLY PRIDE 2022.”
Many other Democrats also trumpeted their support for the LGBT movement.
“Democrats always proudly stand with LGBTQ+ Americans in their fight against injustice and discrimination,” Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California tweeted. Pelosi, who previously served as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, added, “This International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, let us speak out against discrimination, especially amid the escalating assault on our trans community.”
“On International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, #IDAHOBIT, we reject anti-LGBTQI+ bigotry surging across America and worldwide, a hallmark of authoritarian demagogues and movements. We can all play a role in rejecting hate and celebrating democratic pluralism,” Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland tweeted.
“Discrimination against LGBTQ folks is rising at an alarming rate across the country, including in Texas. Today on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, we condemn this bigotry and work to root out hate and discrimination wherever it exists,” Rep. Colin Allred of Texas tweeted.
Debate continues to rage around the U.S. over issues such as whether biological men and boys who identify as women or girls should be permitted to play in female sports and use female restrooms — and many parents oppose the idea of schools exposing students to LGBT topics.
