Update: Police investigating mass shooting at Texas premium outlet mall, 9 people killed, shooter ‘neutralized’ by officer

There has been a mass shooting on Saturday afternoon at the Allen Premium Outlets in Texas.

The latest update on the Allen outlet mall shooting provided by officials on Saturday night revealed that nine people were shot dead – seven died at the outlet mall and two perished later at the hospital. There are three victims in critical condition, and four in stable condition.

The Allen Fire Department chief Jonathan Boyd confirmed that at least nine people were taken to local hospitals.

WFAA reported that there are “multiple victims, including children.”

Fox 4 News reported, “A spokesperson for Medical City Healthcare said eight victims ranging from 5 to 61 years old are being treated at their facilities.”

The outlet cited the Collin County sheriff, who confirmed that the shooter is dead at the crime scene in Allen, Texas.

The shooter was “neutralized” around 3:36 p.m. by a single police officer responding to an unrelated call at the Allen Premium Outlets.

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey said during a press briefing, “He heard gunshots, went to the gunshots engaged the suspect, and neutralized the suspect.”

Police say the suspect is not from Allen. The identity of the shooter was not released yet.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, there were reports of a shooting at the outlet mall in the Dallas area.

The Dallas Morning News reported, “In dashcam video circulated widely online, a person is seen getting out of a silver sedan in the parking lot. Leaving the driver’s door open, the shooter opens fire at people on a sidewalk.”

Witnesses reported dozens of gunshots, which forced the mall to go on lockdown.

Two alleged eyewitnesses told CBS Texas claimed they saw the shooter, and described him as a “big guy” wearing all black and a vest. The mother and son witnesses alleged that the shooter fired between 50 to 100 shots. The mother said, “We saw bodies going down.”

The son claimed that he saw the shooter dead on the floor of the mall.

There were several armored SWAT vehicles at the Allen Premium Outlets.

The Allen Police Department said, “Law enforcement is on the scene at Allen Premium Outlets. An active investigation is underway. Please avoid the area until further update.”

Ambulances from Allen and other neighboring cities responded to the emergency situation.

The Dallas office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said its personnel are “responding to the active shooter incident at Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, TX.”

KTRK-TV reported that the FBI is at the crime scene to assist in the investigation into the shooting.

“This is a tragedy. People will be looking for answers,” Harvey said. “We’re sorry that those families are experiencing that loss.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement:

Our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas tonight during this unspeakable tragedy. I have been in contact with Mayor Fulk and DPS Director McCraw as well as other state and local leaders and offered the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources.

Elaine Penicaro, a shopper at the mall, told KDFW, “We were outside the Converse store and we just heard all this popping. We kind of all just stopped, and then a second later, just ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,’ and there were sparks flying like it was right in front of us.”
