Rhode Island assistant principal asks for donations to help student pay off ‘coyote’ who smuggled him into the US

Breaking News

A Rhode Island high school administrator made a bizarre request to the staff in her district to help pay the human smuggler who brought one of their students across the border.

The email sent Thursday from Stefani Harvey, an assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School, ended up
on social media.

“Hello Team,” the email read. “We have a student who came to America with ‘Coyote’, which is a group that helps people. This group gives you a time frame to make a payment of $5000 dollars to those, who bring them into the states.”

The email was
confirmed by a representative of the Providence Teachers Union on a radio talk show.

“Our student needs our urgent support to raise another $2000 to meet his goal of $5000 by February 1st, 2023,” Harvey continued.

On Friday morning, an email from the school’s principal said the funds would be returned because the request was inappropriate.

“I was informed there was an email seeking financial support for one of our students. I appreciate the faculty and staff contributing to a cause that supports a student, but the nature of the request is not appropriate,”
read the email from Principal Tiffaney Delaney.

“All funds contributed will be returned and we will seek more appropriate methods to support our students,” she added.

Many on social media were shocked that the administrator would give such a misleading definition of “coyotes,” the human traffickers who smuggle illegal aliens across the border and often perpetrate violence or sexual assault on their victims.

A spokesperson for the Providence Public School District
said that the district was investigating the email.
