RETURN OF THE DONALD: Facebook, Instagram to Reinstate Trump in ‘Coming Weeks’

Political News

Facebook and Instagram’s egregious censorship of former President Donald Trump seems to have finally run its course.

Meta President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg announced that Trump’s Instagram and Facebook accounts will be reinstated “in the coming weeks,” according to a January 25 statement. Clegg claimed Meta decided to restore Trump’s accounts after determining the so-called “serious risk to public safety that existed in January 2021” had “sufficiently receded.”

Meta’s censorship of a former sitting president left a dark blemish on the company’s reputation, according to MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider. And Meta’s newly updated “protocol” is certainly not helping rebuild Americans’ trust.

“If Meta wants conservatives to take it seriously about supporting free speech,” Schneider said, “then it needs to recognize that most Americans think differently than those working in Silicon Valley, and that our values are good, valid and time tested.

However, the company indicated it is reluctant to fully change its censorship-obsessed ways.

Facebook and Instagram’s parent company also flexed “new guardrails” to “deter repeat offenses.”

What exactly is Meta attempting to “deter”?

According to Clegg’s statement, Trump will face “heightened penalties for repeat offenses” of its Community Standards. These penalties will also apply to “other public figures whose accounts are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest.”

Future violations of Meta’s Community Standards could land Trump in Meta jail from one month to two years, depending on the infraction’s severity.

Beyond Meta’s direct censorship threat, the platform also stated that it will suppress content it deems to “contribute to the sort of risk that materialized on January 6” by “limiting the distribution of such posts” or “temporarily restrict[ing] access to our advertising tools.”

For a platform that claims that “people should be able to make their voices heard,” it certainly seems to be working overtime to continue limiting and suppressing speech online.

Meta’s free speech grandstanding falls flat in the face of its censorship-laden past.

Ahead of the 2020 Presidential election, Facebook worked overtime to suppress the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop bombshell.

A 2020 MRC poll found that 45 percent of President Joe Biden’s voters weren’t fully aware of the New York Post story exposing alleged corrupt dealing involving him and his son Hunter precisely because the media and Big Tech platforms like Facebook whitewashed it. Had Americans been fully aware of the scandal, 9.4 percent of Biden voters would have abandoned him. This shift would have flipped all six of the swing states Biden won to former President Donald Trump, giving Trump a victorious 311 electoral votes and securing a second presidential term.

Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on “hate speech” and equal footing for conservatives.
