CBS & NBC Continue ‘Hard-Right’ Smear of Anti-McCarthy Conservatives

Breaking News

After three days of a gridlocked House Republican conference unable to unite behind a candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives, CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News continued their partisan labeling of the twenty Republicans who refuse to back the current frontrunner during their evening newscasts. Both CBS & NBC once again referred to the twenty conservatives as “hard-right.”

On CBS Evening News, anchor Norah O’Donnell opened by gloating about how it “was another day of humiliating defeats for Republican leader Kevin McCarthy.” This is because according to O’Donnell “hard-right factions of the GOP are standing firm in voting against McCarthy as Speaker of the House on every ballot.”

“With his reputation on the line, the California Republican worked the floor engaged in intense conversations, and he made new concessions to win over party holdouts. That includes making it easier for any member to oust the speaker and giving his opponents two seats on the powerful rules committee which vets legislation,” correspondent Nikole Killion explained.

Killion got her turn to gloat and smear conservatives with another label: “far-right.”

When reporting on how concessions McCarthy has thus far made in converting conservatives have been unsuccessful, Killion sneered “as negotiations took place behind closed doors, Far-right members appeared unmoved.”

Meanwhile, on NBC Nightly News, correspondent Ryan Nobles joined in on the leftist media dog pile: “McCarthy has over 200 Republican votes, but 20 hard-right hold-outs are still blocking him from victory.”

“This despite McCarthy overnight giving in to new concessions the rebel Republicans demanded including allowing only one member to call for a vote to remove the speaker and giving the conservative freedom caucus seats on the powerful rules committee,” Noble bemoaned.

Why won’t CBS & NBC ever label Democrats as “far-left or “hard-left?” The answer is that they agree with the extreme elements of the Democrat Party.

NORAH O’DONNELL: Back here in Washington, it was another day of humiliating defeats for Republican leader Kevin McCarthy. Hard-right factions of the GOP are standing firm in voting against McCarthy as Speaker of the House on every ballot. CBS’s Nikole Killion is on capitol hill.

NIKOLE KILLION: Three days

HOUSE CLERK CHERYL JOHNSON: No member-elect having received the majority of the votes cast.

KILLION: And ten votes later.

JOHNSON: A speaker has not been elected.

KILLION: No gavel for GOP leader Kevin McCarthy.

REP. KEVIN MCCARTHY: We’re going to keep working until we solve it.

KILLION: With his reputation on the line, the California Republican worked the floor engaged in intense conversations, and he made new concessions to win over party holdouts. That includes making it easier for any member to oust the speaker and giving his opponents two seats on the powerful rules committee which vets legislation.

REP. DAN CRENSHAW: It’s a list of stupid platitudes.

KILLION: Some of McCarthy’s backers feel the party is being taken hostage by the demands of a few.

CRENSHAW: That’s why animosity is so high. The thing about a hostage station is usually there is usually demands and then you let the hostage go.

KILLION: As negotiations took place behind closed doors, Far-right members appeared unmoved.

REP. LAUREN BOEBERT: It is not happening, and as it’s been said, we need to get to a point where we start evaluating what life after Kevin McCarthy looks like.

KILLION: And at least one dissenter, Florida’s Matt Gaetz, cast his vote for the former President.

REP. MATT GAETZ: Donald John Trump.

KILLION: With the House in gridlock, no work can get done with some constituent services on hold. Committee staffers’ pay could be stopped after next week and members like Wisconsin’s Mike Gallagher are concerned about national security.

REP. MIKE GALLAGHER: We effectively don’t have a clearance despite being a member of the Intel committee, being a member of the armed services committee, and I was supposed to have a classified briefing that I was unable to attend as a result. So there’s a lot of important work that we can’t do.

RYAN NOBLES: McCarthy has over 200 Republican votes, but 20 hard-right hold-outs are still blocking him from victory. This despite McCarthy overnight giving in to new concessions the rebel Republicans demanded including allowing only one member to call for a vote to remove the speaker and giving the conservative freedom caucus seats on the powerful rules committee. According to members involved in the negotiations. But the offer was not enough.
