What do some of the world’s most powerful Big Tech oligarchs and nearly 30 rabidly pro-censorship organizations have in common? They all share an apparent disdain for free speech and received a total of $80,233,084 from liberal billionaire George Soros to fortify their election influence operations before Election Day Nov. 8.
In October, just before the midterm elections, Soros pursued multiple fronts to influence the outcomes, continually pushing for censorship. First, the Soros-funded Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (LCCHR) fired off an Oct. 13 open letter calling on Big Tech to take “immediate steps to curb the spread of voting disinformation in the midterms and future elections and to help prevent the undermining of our democracy.”
Just over one week later, another Soros-funded group, Global Witness, released an “investigation” piece whining that Facebook and TikTok weren’t censoring enough before the November midterm elections.
And at the end of October, The Washington Post’s pro-censorship zealots gave a platform to the Change The Terms Coalition, a group that warned of “violence” if the Big Tech giants didn’t censor so-called “disinformation” leading up to the 2022 midterms.
Soros directed his bankroll toward influencing Big Tech’s foremost leaders.
LCCHR addressed its domineering letter to tech executives including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel and Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri. Soros gave a massive $30,325,500 to at least 7 of the 12 total signers of LCCHR’s letter between 2016 and 2020.
Soros’ reach is also global. He gave Global Witness $17,657,000 between 2016 and 2020 alone, according to Open Society Foundations (OSF) data. Global Witness has offices in London, Brussels and Washington, D.C.
For his latest censorship push in October, Soros targeted three tech heavyweights: Meta, Twitter and TikTok. He gave $32,250,584 to at least 28 of the groups who signed on to be part of the Change The Terms Coalition between 2016 and 2020 alone, according to an MRC Business analysis.
That coalition ran a “#FixTheFeed” Campaign, which called on “Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube to stop amplifying the worst content on their platforms. Hate. Disinformation. Calls for violence. Propaganda.”
The powerful group didn’t stop there, slamming Facebook as “actively amplifying hate and disinformation to make money, which hurts our communities and undermines our democracy.” [Emphasis added.]
Even the liberal media is having trouble denying Soros’ outsized influence in American politics. The New York Times crowned Soros the “largest donor of 2022 “ after he gave “at least $126 million,” nearly doubling the “roughly $67 million that the next two largest donors” — both Republicans — could muster.
