Rob Reiner has called upon “Non MAGA” GOP officials to look to Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as their “North Star.”
“Non MAGA elected Republicans: You have the power to save our Democracy. Let Liz Cheney be your North Star. No job is worth destroying 246 years of Self Rule,” Reiner tweeted on Friday.
Cheney, an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, is one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Trump last year in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. She was later ousted from her role as House Republican conference chair. Cheney is one of the two GOP lawmakers to serve on the House select committee created to investigate the Jan. 6 episode.
Last month, Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman trounced Cheney during the GOP primary for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district.
Reiner, who describes himself on Twitter as a “Filmmaker, actor, producer, husband, and father,” regularly airs his political views on the social media platform.
“The choice is clear. If you want a Government that cares about all Americans, vote Democratic. If you want a White Christian Nationalist Autocracy and are willing to kill fellow Americans to get it, vote Republican,” he tweeted in August. “It’s simple. If you want dedicated qualified people to run our Government, vote Democrat. If you want Autocrats who have no problem using deadly force to overthrow it, vote Republican,” he wrote in another post last month.
“With the exception of Liz Cheney and a handful of outcasts, Republicans are completely comfortable with outright lying. Democrats are hamstrung by having to tell the truth. But if we don’t, we become them. So keep it up. Truth will prevail,” he also tweeted last month. “So grateful to have a President who speaks the Truth. A President who deeply cares about the preservation of our 246 years of Democratic Self Rule. Thank you, President Biden,” he tweeted on Sept. 1.
