A Democrat running for the House of Representatives ripped his own party’s push for “no-cash” bail in New York during a Wednesday Fox News appearance.

“There’s definitely a causal relationship to this and the stats do not lie,” former Democratic Rep. Max Rose of New York, who is running against former foe Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, said on “Fox and Friends.” “Emerging in New York, particularly over the last year, there is a revolving door, a culture of criminality without consequence, some of which I think is undeniably tied to this bail law.”

New York passed a bail reform law in 2019 that eliminated cash bail requirements for many crimes. Under the provisions of that law, a man who allegedly tried to assassinate Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York, who is running for governor, was released in hours before he was indicted on federal charges.

“What is shocking about this is that the solution is so obvious,” Rose continued. “We need to give judges discretion to actually make decisions pending to the individual case, particularly as it pertains to these individuals who keep on committing crimes. It’s my belief that we should be listening to law enforcement officials on the ground, we should be listening to other Democrats who are voicing these concerns, such as mayor Eric Adams, and make these very sensible changes.”

Prosecutors in New York City came under fire after charging a bodega clerk with murder after he stabbed a man attacking him.

“If somebody is continuing to commit crime after crime after crime, burglary, violent assault, whatever it may be, they should not be on the streets,” Rose said.

The Democratic National Committee, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Rose did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
