Steve Kerr Calls For More Gun Control In Wake Of Uvalde Shooting

Political News

Everyone knows that what happened in Uvalde, TX is nothing short of abominable. Naturally, we try to find solutions for these problems, bur our emotional responses in these situations often leads us to suggest things that will not work in the long run.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has long been an advocate for strict gun control, and predictably, he delivered another impassioned plea to U.S. lawmakers to tighten gun control laws on Tuesday, shortly before his squad was about to face the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals.

When Kerr was discussing the bill that the House passed that the Senate would not pass, he was referring to H.R.8 (presented to the Senate in 2021), a bill that would tighten background check measures for firearm transfers between private parties.

As always, the solution that Kerr proposes seems logical, right? Just make it harder for people to buy and get guns and stuff like this won’t happened.

But unfortunately, that’s not how it works.

Look at Chicago, IL as an example. The Windy City has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, so Kerr and a lot of other progressives would argue that that would mean there would be less gun crime in Chicago.

That’s not the case.

In 2021, the Chicago Police Department reported that there were 3,561 shooting incidents within the city despite all the strict gun laws. This came after the city’s Gun Investigations Team took over 12,000 illegal firearms of the streets in that same yea

So each time something like the Uvalde school shooting happens, we must realize that making it harder for people to get guns, or taking away illegal ones, does not stop it from happening. If a criminal or a deranged man is determined enough, they will always find a way to get what they want.

Our world is broken, there is not denying that. But when the solutions we suggest don’t produce the results we want, it’s time to look for different solutions.
