Maryland rapper Goonew, whose real name is Markelle Morrow, was gunned down on March 18.

Bliss nightclub in Washington, D.C., issued a statement on the incident after video footage of the disturbing wake made waves on the internet.

“Bliss was never made aware of what would transpire. We sincerely apologize to all those who may be upset or offended,” the statement added. “Please keep Goonew’s family and friends in your prayers at this difficult time.”

The video showed Morrow’s body, which was clad in jeans, a $750 hooded sweatshrt, glasses, and a crown, propped up on a stage next to the club’s DJ booth as attendees danced, cheered, and snapped photos at the bizarre event.

According to reports, there was a $40 cover charge at the door for Sunday evening’s event.

What else is there to know about this?

The rapper’s mother, Patrice Morrow, told WTTG-TV that she was “pleased” with how she was able to send her son off.

“For all the negatives, people probably don’t even know nothing about us,” she insisted. “They have no idea. People just saying what they want to say and that’s fine. That’s perfectly fine. I’m pleased with how I sent my son away. I wish people would just let me grieve in peace.”

The rapper’s sister, Ariana Morrow added, “We’re not trying to clear anything up. We don’t care about anybody and what y’all have to say negative. Nobody. We don’t care. They’re like, ‘I know his mama wouldn’t approve of that.’ Yeah, she did, she was on stage with us.”

The Prince George’s County Police Department announced Morrow’s death in March, revealing that the rapper was gunned down in District Heights, Maryland, on March 18.

“Once on scene, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound,” a release from the department read. “The victim was taken to a hospital for life-threatening injuries. At approx. 7:30 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead.”

Authorities are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in Morrow’s shooting.
