Florida Judge Rules In Favor Of Twitter In Trump Dispute

Political News

A federal judge in Florida has ruled that the former presidential status of Donald Trump does not exempt him from Twitter’s rules.

The former president was suspended after the platform said he incited the Jan. 6 riots.

A judge ruled in favor of Twitter, but not for a reason that prevents Trump from suing. Instead, the judge held that Twitter’s “forum selection clause,” which mandates the location where a lawsuit can be held, is valid.

Trump argued that as a former President of the United States, he should be exempt from Twitter’s forum selection clause. The judge disagreed.

“The Court finds that Trump’s status as President of the United States does not exclude him from the requirements of the forum selection clause in Twitter’s Terms of Service,” the judge said

Trump sued Facebook and Twitter for the bans, and just last week announced the creation of his own social media platform: TRUTH Social. TRUTH Social will be released next spring under the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).

Trump said he is excited about his platform’s potential.

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” he said in a statement. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon.”
