Chilling bodycam video of cops being ambushed shows how a calm situation can turn deadly in an instant for police

Breaking News

One second, two NYPD officers were assisting an domestic violence victim, the next second, a hail of gunfire was sprayed at them as the alleged abusive husband ambushed them. The New York Police Department released graphic bodycam video of the deadly shootout at 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 24 between cops and Rondell Goppy in Queens, New York.

“Authorities say a 41-year-old woman had walked into the 105th Precinct to report the domestic violence case, and the officers then accompanied her back to the residence to collect her belongings,” KABC-TV reported.

NYPD officers Joseph Murphy and Christopher Wells were attempting to provide solutions to Goppy’s wife, who feared that her husband would harm her. The officers suggested getting a locksmith to change the locks in the home. Officer Murphy proposes leaving the house, and asks the woman, “Where does your sister live?”

All of a sudden, the terrified woman announces, “Oh, he’s coming. That’s him. He’s here.” She shakily shrieks, “Ooh. Ooh!”

Goppy opens the front door, and in the blink of an eye, gunshots ring out towards the police officers. Goppy, reportedly armed with a licensed Glock Model 22 .40 caliber firearm and a Smith & Wesson Model MP Shield 9 mm handgun, fired 11 shots in a few seconds.

Bullets struck Officer Wells in the thigh and Officer Murphy in both of his hands. The officers retaliated in self-defense by firing 24 shots, hitting Goppy several times. Goppy died from his injuries. The woman was not injured in the shooting.

Law enforcement officials say it’s a miracle they survived the horrifying shootout.

“This video is chilling and difficult to watch, but it makes one thing clear: Police Officers Wells and Murphy saved lives,” PBA president Patrick Lynch said. “They saved the lives of that domestic violence victim and her children, and they saved each other’s lives – all because they had the training, skill and courage of New York City police officers. For anyone questioning whether we need police officers responding to these types of situations, this video is the answer.”

Wells suffered a fractured femur, and both officers needed surgery. They were discharged within a few days and received a hero’s welcome as they were discharged from the hospital in November.

  1. to bad the media will say it was a racist shooting and the terrorist organizations of blm and antifa will be rioting more while commie sympathizer demonrat politicians, including the white house call girl, will say that the cops should not have been armed so they couldn’t defend themselves or the defenseless abuse victim.

  2. Yeah and the Mayor and Governor wanna defund the Police?? Bless those Officers hearts they werent killed also. Sounds like need about 5000 more Police in NY. Nuts I mean. Somethin wrong with this thinking in NY . Minnesota is also finding out the hard way. People are getting robbed and slaughtered in the streets by THUGS Dailey. What in the Hell are ya gonna do BIDEN? And no if those Officers werent there that poor woman would be dead. And believe me if that Gentleman didnt have his gun he would have stabbed or beat her to death. So dont be throwing taking away OUR Guns.

  3. Some cities and states want to handle these situations with social workers rather than police officers. That would have worked really well here, huh?

    1. Considering that here in Seattle, while they were passing laws to reduce police funding, a social worker was being attacked, just blocks away, by one of their clients. Yeah, they don’t have any way to defend themselves, legally anyway. And if the person is high as a kite or has a history of violence, they’re in even more danger.

  4. Police did what they had to do – God bless them. In the final analysis, everything turned out ok. Everyone survived except the perp who got what he deserved.

  5. I knew cops who straight up said it this way.

“I’d rather be Patrolling Crack Alley than handling Domestic Disputes. When you’re doing your patrol in Crack Alley, you KNOW who the threats are. You just have to know where they’re coming from.”

“Domestic Dispute? Anyone can be a threat to your life.”

  6. De Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, said citizens need to get involved and physically intervene to stop violent crimes. Well, here’s everybody’s chance. Perhaps De Blasio’s wife will put her body where her mouth is and lead the way as an example.

  7. This is a product of the Democrat party / parasites like Maxine Waters is the as much to blame as the people that committed this crime.
