Some Texans were shocked to find their electric bills skyrocketed as high as $17,000 following the cold snap.

Texas got hit with rare winter storms and subfreezing temperatures earlier this week that spanned to the southern part of the state and the power grids gave out after nearly half of the wind turbines froze.

Some North Texans who were lucky enough not to lose power got hit with astronomically high electric bills.

A company called Griddy gives their customers access to the power grid wholesale, however the prices were so high because of the rare winter storms, they hit a state-imposed cap.

Griddy told their customers to switch to other utility companies before the winter storms hit, however other providers didn’t want to take on new customers.

FOX 4 reported:

Ty Williams and his family in Alrington were among the lucky ones during this week’s storm and never lost power. However, he did pay the price in the form of a $17,000 electric bill for three meters over five days of use. He is a customer of a company called Griddy.

Griddy gives customers real-time access to the power grid wholesale. But this week, wholesale prices were so high they hit a state-imposed cap.

And even though the Williams did what they could to conserve, their bill ballooned.

Griddy urged their customers late last week to switch companies before the storm because of a high price forecast.

Ty says he tried repeatedly and was told by many prospective providers a switch would take at least a week.

“It was useless because nobody wants to take on the burden of a new client when they’re paying top dollar for power,” he said.

Joe Biden addressed the Texas power crisis on Friday and said he may be visiting Texas soon but he isn’t sure when.

It took Biden several days to finally meet with FEMA and sign a federal emergency declaration, which gave Texas $5 million in federal aid.

Biden may expand the amount of funding if he signs a new major emergency declaration.

  1. How is that even possible? I would flat refuse to pay a $17,000 power bill! I live in Florida and we often lose power due to hurricanes so we have both solar AND a gasoline powered generator for essentials.

  2. Texas theoretically doesn’t have an electrical grid like most other states so when all types of energy were affected Texas could not just buy power off of the national grid. Whose fault? Has to be put on the politicians and the power companies. If normally warm states like Texas can’t make wind and solar work what chance to any states above the Mason Dixon?

    1. Yes, it does have a grid. However, the surrounding utilities couldn’t come close to supplying enough to matter — there was little surplus generating capacity. Texas utilities were asked to supply one month’s worth of energy in four days.

  3. Biden is a joke. Why did it take him so long to sign the fema bill? Why is it taking him so long to visit Texas? Is it because they are a conservative state?

    1. A handful of Democratic leaders made the comment that “they would go after the Trump supporter”. Texas is a Red State.

    2. Biden was hidin’. Don’t know if it was the townhall he did for CNN, you know, late night, past 7 pm, and of course, tough questions. Or, he might have called a snow day in regards to the winter storms in TX. You make the choice.

    3. Joey Bidumbass is a wonderful homosexual. All of the faggots love his sorry ass. Kammy gives great head too.

  4. Electric service is a contract between the service provider and the customer. Deceptive sales practices are used to lure in customers who then sign, in good faith, for supposedly cheaper service without the service provider fully disclosing the details of the contract in emergency situations. all kinds of hidden fees, taxes and surcharges often used to fund, federally mandated, unreliable, “renewable” power sources like wind and solar. The companies also use their profits to buy politicians to keep common sense regulation and caps on charges/increases out of law leaving consumers vulnerable. The feds refused to allow Texas companies to ramp up supply prior to the demand with “Green New Deal” style carbon emission caps on power production alternatives. There is plenty of blame to go around and plenty of solutions to. Most important solutions are to hold providers accountable for failing to provide as per the good faith contracts and get the federal government 100% out of regulating Texas power grid needs.

  5. Bidophile was too busy with the Townhall with that wacko liberal Anderson Cooper to take time out to be concerned about Texas. I recall reading somewhere the other day that DC had about 1 to 2 inches of snow and Biden decided to take a “snow day” – which means the old man cannot handle winters even though he lived in Delaware. He won’t visit Texas until it is warm and sunny – suspect he may be afraid to be on an aircraft if the winter might be bad. One thing Texas proved is that windmills do not work when the temperatures drop and solar panels don’t work if the sun is not out. So much for this green sh**!

  6. Creepy Joe Biden is simply a puppet for the radical left. He cannot even speak for himself, he has to read off que cards that someone else wrote for him. Biden is the biggest, the worst joke that has ever been played on this country and we will pay a severe price for allowing Biden to become president.
Unfortunately, not only the radical left, but we will all pay a price for allowing Biden to stumble into the oval office. God help us.

    1. Billy, I honestly don’t feel “We” had anything to do with voting into our White-house the likes of J.B. We have been robbed of our right to vote in a free election.

  7. If it had been Trump waiting this long they would have crucified him. But being Slo Joe guess it’s all OK. Just remember that Texas is a red state

  8. It’s because of “Excess” usage. Fines. Had Trump been in office he would have declared this a disaster and said those fines for ‘excess’ usage were null and void.

  9. I’m currently reading a book titled, “Dark Winter” and the author has done a ton of research on climate and climate changes. What happened in Texas was a once in a hundred year event and the Texans were not ready for it. In the book I’m reading the point is made that “real scientists” (those not financed by governments For the express purpose of proving AGW-global warming caused by people exists and is an existential threat to humanity) can show that massive global cooling is coming soon to a state near you. Not only is it coming-within three to fourteen years away, it is truly an existential threat to humanity. The last time it happened, we had years where there was no summer-no summer, no food (existential threat). While the boneheads in DC are preparing to spend 93 trillion dollars for a 0.04 degree reduction in global temperatures, God (Mother Nature, if you prefer) is going to drop the temperature by 2 degrees centigrade. If DC continues down the path they’re on, we can all starve and freeze to death while the politicians scratch their collective asses.
