Disney warns viewers ‘The Muppet Show’ is ‘offensive content’ that has a ‘harmful impact’

Breaking News

The Muppets, fictional hand-puppets that have been entertaining adults and children alike since 1955, are suddenly “offensive.”

Disney released five seasons of the iconic “The Muppet Show” on its Disney+ streaming service on Friday. Viewers quickly noticed that there is an “offensive content” disclaimer before the beloved sitcom featuring celebrated puppets such as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Gonzo.

“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures,” the disclaimer states. “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.”

“Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together,” the warning reads.

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe,” the statement concludes.

“The Muppet Show” can only be seen on an adult account on Disney’s $6.99-a-month streaming service, according to the Daily Mail.

Disney doesn’t specify what “negative depictions” and “stereotypes” were so egregious that a content warning was needed for the TV show that originally aired in 1976, and won three BAFTA Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Peabody Award.

Possible “offensive content” could be the puppet named “Animal” “objectifying” and chasing women. The Swedish Chef speaks a gibberish language that is widely interpreted as Swedish-sounding. The variety show featured celebrities, including a 1981 episode featuring legendary singer Johnny Cash performing with the Confederate flag in the background.

In October, Disney added lengthy content warnings for the animated movies “Dumbo,” “Peter Pan,” and “The Aristocats.” Those disclaimers also warned of “negative depictions” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.”

In June, a petition went viral that claimed that the Splash Mountain ride at Disney theme parks is “steeped in extremely problematic and stereotypical racist tropes.” Disney quickly buckled to the outrage mob and quickly announced that the ride would be “completely reimagined” with a new story inspired by “The Princess and The Frog” movie.

Earlier this month, actress Gina Carano was canceled by an online campaign and fired from the extremely popular “The Mandalorian” because of her social media posts.

Coincidentally, this is the same Disney corporation that filmed the movie “Mulan” in the Xinjiang province of China, where approximately 1 million Uighur Muslims are reportedly being detained and re-educated by the Chinese Communist Party.

Disney went so far as to thank the Publicity Department of Communist Party of China Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Committee and the Turpan Municipality Public Security Bureau in the movie’s credits. The Chinese entities have been “implicated in human rights violations and abuses in the implementation of China’s campaign of repression, mass arbitrary detention, and high-technology surveillance against Uighurs, Kazakhs, and other members of Muslim minority groups in the XUAR.”

  1. What a bunch of B.S. Time to CANCEL the cancel culture and maybe Disney. The company hasn’t been the same since Walt Disney died. Too much P.C. I guess they are afraid they might lose a few dollars if they don’t comply with the radicals. I hope they lose a lot more because they cave in to them.

  2. “Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe,” Really? Come on, we’re talking about animation and hand-puppets, for crying out loud.

  3. The Left has an amazing ability to make something out of absolutely nothing. Companies should not rollover so easily. Most of the arguments are so ridiculous as to make them laughable.

  4. Except for Sam the American eagle. He was satirical against conservatives, so there will be no apologies made for him.

  5. The only thing that has changed is the indoctrination of leftward thinking & the making of overly sensitive feelings to the point of being a sickness. The Muppets have been entertaining millions for over a 1/2 century. Now all of a sudden they’re offensive? Sanity will soon become a bad word. Sad.

  6. Ever since Disney took over the Muppet and Star Wars franchises, they’ve cheapened them to the point that they aren’t worth watching!
They crank out these shows and movies just to make a buck.
With the disclaimer of “offensive” nature of the Muppet Show, The only thing offensive about it , is the Disney execs bowing to censorship mandated by their Chinese Masters.

  7. Pretty soon Mary Poppins will be offensive. All the characters are white, except when the chimney sweeps have black soot on their faces, therefore “white supremacy”. And since Mary Poppins is first misunderstood by the white male in the film, well, there you go … female oppression and toxic masculinity. Only a matter of time.

  8. When I think about all the “princess” characters on Disney, who do nothing except look pretty (except Mulan), get themselves in trouble, and have to be rescued by young men, I can’t help but wonder if that’s all we’re teaching young girls today. Are there any characters who are scientists, doctors, engineers, carpenters, pilots, or other well-educated women? Heck no. Just be a princess and men will take care of you. Yeah, right. Muppets is just satire. But the Ariel-type mermaids have ruled the film industry forever. Lets do an Amelia Earhart, or Marie Curie character for a change.

  9. Disney is obviously being ran by people who do not want Disney to succeed. I was going to subscribe to the Disney Service until they fired the actress on the Mandalorian as that was the only show I wanted to see. Now they think warnings on the Muppets is a good idea. It’s clear they are being ran by leftist nut job morons who care more about stupid crap than running a successful business.

  10. It is time to fight back against this cancel culture. Write or call your Congress person today. No more cancel culture and no more illegals!

  11. So stupid. The Muppets actually taught diversity by soooo many of it character’s actions. They addressed the tenets of diversity, and showed kids, (and parents who watched), that differences are not a bad thing. They, with their very dialogue, showed that some things were unacceptable, but, also showed that we can succeed despite those differences. Talk about offended? I’m ‘offended’ by the very character of the ‘cancel culture’ which teaches people to be selfish, disallow different opinions. Good Grief! I think these people are offended by the sun coming Up, while crying about the rain. I can’t believe how rigid some folks thinking has become.

  12. This country turning into a bunch of big pu$$ies. These liberal socialists have infiltrated and infected every institution in the United States from schools to entertainment to government. They over analyze everything using their lens of neurotic fragile sensibilities abd haughty bougeise attitudes of better than everyone else. And then expect everybody else to fall into place and march with them. SCREW them. if Walt Disney was alive he would go up and slap every single one of those snot-nosed socialist liberal entertainment executives up the side of the head with a baseball bat. And clean house. They keep this up these young kids today grown up to be adults will never be able to fight a war They will not fight and sit down and cry and ask for their mothers and we will lose. ( remember if you want freedom you have to be ready to defend it otherwise someone will take it from you)
