A police chief of a suburban village in Illinois was fired after he posted a meme about looters that many found to be controversial.
Thomas Scully worked as the Orland Hills police chief for 15 years but he was fired on Wednesday over the Facebook post.
“We hold all of our public officials to the highest standards in their personal and professional lives in Orland Hills,” the village said in a statement according
to WBBM-TV.
“This social media post is in incredibly poor taste,” they added. “It does not reflect the values of the people of our community, and we will not tolerate such behavior from any of our public officials.”
They added in the statement that the village’s deputy chief would fill in on an interim basis.
What did the meme say?
The meme was a commentary on the recent rioting and looting that resulted from protests over numerous incidents where black people were killed while in police custody or as a result of the actions of police officers.
It read, “Looting. When free housing, free food, free education, and free phones just aren’t enough.”
Scully is far from the only public official to lose his position over controversial social media posts.
A staffer for the governor of Maryland was fired in August over posts that justified the shooting at a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin that resulted the deaths of two protesters.
One post read, “Don’t be a thug if you can’t take a slug,” with the image of police officer smiling. Another read, “When you see a skateboard wielding Antifa chickens*** get smoked by an AR toting 17-yr-old.”

I wonder if someone employed by that same township would be fired if they posted anti police memes on their facebook page. I highly doubt it. This country has gone so far left on political correctness that it is nauseating.
Rioting is wrong, it is criminal, it ruins businesses, homes, lives and someone loses their job because they make a negative comment about it. What should happen is that chief gets talked to and maybe a letter in his file noting that he was reprimanded. 15 years in a position and fired to make sure their township stays with the politically correct factions in the country.
I don’t agree with what he posted but as with many issues out there, it is not enough to lose a job over.
I closed my Facebook account due to the frequent bias that they often exhibit. We all are capable of making mistakes and saying a few things that may not be quite appropriate. Sadly, Facebook considers you guilty of occasional satire while saying things that are far more offensive,
After two warnings from Facebook I closed my account. Unless you post something ultra liberal, objecting to the wiles of the Right or taken offensive by any one person in the Land, you will be warned. What happened to the First Amendment?

All the memes that the Orlando Local Government Members need to be researched and posted. Actions should be taken on any memes that are found to be offensive. Let’s see how many people will still be employed by Orlando after doing this. It’s only right to see how perfect this group is.

Tom’s post was right on in my opinion and I applaud him. I believe that all the “freebies” in this counry perpetuates laziness and it also gives future generations no desire to acieve or make goals. I also thought that we had the freedom to speak in this country and his firing was uncalled for.
If you believe this was a ridiculous out come, then take action by refusing to spend another dime in Orland Hills! Money or lack there of, is a great equalizer when an injustice is performed for telling the truth!

I’m sure that many lawyers are knocking at his door to file law suits against the township for wrongful termination. No where in EEO are looters protected from being commented on or made fun of. Criminals are only a protected once in custody as the kept. Also the township has stepped on his free speech rights and thus are open to legal action. I hope the police chief ends up owning stock in this township as a result of this gross over reach.
